Who we are
College Clarity ("College Clarity", "we", "us") provides the College Clarity website and application. College College Clarity is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy — we decide what is collected and why. You can contact us at hello@collegeclarityworld.com.
What we collect
Account information you give us (email address, name, login credentials); profile details you choose to enter (school, GPA, test scores, coursework, activities, preferences); the content you create (essays, notes, college lists, uploaded resumes or transcripts); support messages you send us; and technical/usage data such as IP address, device and browser information, and basic activity logs.
How we use it and our legal basis
We use your account and content data to provide the Service you asked for and to process paid subscriptions — this is necessary to perform our contract with you. We use technical and usage data for security, fraud prevention, troubleshooting, and improving the product — our legitimate interests in running a reliable service. We send optional deadline reminders and marketing emails only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. We also process data where we have a legal obligation, such as tax and accounting records.
What we don't do
We don't sell your data. We don't share your essays with colleges, counselors, or other users. We don't use your content to train third-party AI models.
AI features
When you use AI tools (feedback, chat, chance estimates, application review), the relevant prompt and content are sent to our AI provider to generate a response. They process it under their own privacy terms and do not retain it to train models on your behalf.
Who we share data with
Service providers and subprocessors who help us run the Service — cloud hosting and database providers, AI processing providers, email delivery, and error/analytics tooling. Paddle.com, our online reseller and Merchant of Record, which processes your purchase of Clarity Pro and receives the payment and billing data you enter at checkout (name, email, billing address, tax location, and payment details, which are collected and handled by Paddle, not by us) and uses it for subscription management, payments, invoicing, tax compliance, fraud prevention, and refunds under Paddle's privacy notice. We may also share data with professional advisers (legal, accounting) and with authorities where required by law.
Data retention
We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete specific essays, notes, or colleges, they are removed from your workspace. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where we must keep records longer to meet legal, tax, or accounting obligations (typically up to 7 years for transaction records) or to resolve disputes. Technical logs are kept for a short period, generally no more than 12 months.
Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), encryption at rest with our cloud provider, row-level security so only your account can read your rows, hashed credentials, and access controls limiting who on our side can reach production data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your drafts private.
Cookies
We use essential cookies and similar local storage to keep you signed in and to remember preferences such as your theme. We do not use advertising cookies. You can clear or block cookies in your browser, though signing in will not work without the essential ones.
Your rights and controls
You can edit or delete your essays, notes, and colleges at any time in the app. Depending on where you live, you also have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to our processing of your personal data, to receive a copy in a portable format, to withdraw consent, and to complain to your local data protection authority. To exercise any of these, or to delete your account entirely, email hello@collegeclarityworld.com and we will respond within one month.
Children
College Clarity is not directed at children under 13. If we learn we've collected data from a child under 13 without parental consent, we'll delete it.
Changes
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll notify you in the app or by email.
